Used by framers in the mountboard decoration.
Brian Wolf, in his mountboard decoration books, shows several examples of decorations made with the sponge rubber spatula and describes the following procedure:
1) Apply a masking tape on the mountboard.
2) Use a pencil to trace guide lines on the masking tape.
3) Cut the masking tape with a cutter following the guide lines (do not press the blade too much).
4) Remove the masking tape leaving free the band to decorate.
5) Apply the powder coloured pigments by using the spatula.
6) Remove the remaining masking tape next to the decorated band.
The sponge rubber spatulas are available in two sizes:
