Water bole, Yellow - 300 ml
The bolus is a mixture made of clayey soils.
The main feature of the bole is to attract the gold leaf when the bole is wet with water.
It is used for water gilding with gold or silver leaf.
The bole can be yellow, red or black depending on your preference and the finish you want to have.
The choice of colour of the bole is important to get the desired effects. The color of the bole, in fact, can be seen through the gold leaf.
The yellow bole is more suitable for hollow parts of the frames. The color of the bole tends to blend with the color of the leaf. Any areas left uncovered by the leaf will not be noticed.
The red bole gives a warm tone to the leaf. Advisable for the part of the frame burnished with burnishers (agate stones).
The black bole is indicated when the leaf has light colors (silver, white gold, aluminum).
The bole is a semisolid paste at room temperature.
This bolus also contains a limited amount of rabbit skin to give greater stickiness and therefore let it be ready to use.
In some cases, however, it is advisable to add other rabbit glue. In particular, it is advisable for imitation leaves since, to adhere to support, they require greater stickiness.
You must heat the bole in "bain-marie" at about 50° C.
It should be applied with special brushes. It's good to give at least three hands. After drying the last layer, it is necessary to smooth the surface with a special brush with short and rigid britles until you get a surface like a mirror or with 0000 steel wool.
