Real Gold Leaf 22k, 80x80mm - 25 sheet booklets
The real gold leaf is obtained by a conventional method of thinning the metal.
The gold ingot, passing between two rollers is reduced gradually to a thin belt (12 micron thick) and is then cut into pieces of 8x8 cm. The gold leaves are then packaged in books of 25 sheets.
The purity of gold is expressed in carats. If gold is 100% pure, it has 24 carats. The gold can be mixed with other metals that give it particular characteristics of color and hardness.
Gold normally used for gilding is 22 carat (that is pure at 92%).
To apply the leaf on the bole, you must wet it with plain water or a liquid which is called "gouache". The "water gilding" is obtained with water and glue rabbit skin in proportion of 10 grams of glue and 100 grams of water.
The gold leaf can be burnished.
It does not need protection because it is not subject to oxidation.
