The sponge can be used in the framing or as a tool for modelling clay.
When used in the framing, it serves to dampen the protective paper before applying it to the frame.
It should be soaked with water and passed over the entire surface of the protective paper before applying it to the frame. Wait one minute for the paper to expand due to moisture and then apply the paper to the back of the frame.
When the paper will dry off, it will remain perfectly tense.
The alternative is to moisten the paper after it has been applied to the frame. The paper will equally be tense, but not as perfect as it would be if the paper is dampened before application.
If the sponge is too large for your hands, you can reduce it with a free hand knife, or by cutting it in half.
