Super-SoftStrand steel wire - 150 metres reel
"Super Softstrand" mild stainless steel wire is for picture hanging. It consists of various strands twisted together. It features a transparent nylon coating to facilitate attachment and protect fingers. It is not subject to corrosion failure.
The thread is twisted on the two eyelets applied on the two vertical sides of the frame.
The system of hanging frames with a steel wire fixed on the two vertical sides of the frame is widely used in America and Great Britain. With this system you don't see any hangers (which can sometimes be unsightly). However, the disadvantage remains that the frame remains detached from the wall by a few millimetres. The frame remains slightly inclined, but this effect is often deliberately sought.
Super Softstrand is available in 5 different sizes depending on the weight of the frames to hang:
• 457 meter spool, breaking level: 7 Kg (code PS2)
• 343 meter spool, breaking level: 9 Kg (code PS3)
• 259 meter spool, breaking level: 11 Kg (code PS4)
• 152 meter spool, breaking level: 19 Kg (code PS5)
• 84 meter spool, breaking level: 27 Kg (code PS6)
Instructions for use of Super Softstrand Steel Wire:
1) Place the eyelets on the two vertical sides of the frame at about 2/3 of the height of the frame (so that they are at least 1/3 away from the top of the frame).
2) Pass the thread through the eyelets.
3) Cut the thread leaving it long enough to be twisted at least 6 times. This will help prevent any fraying.
4) Knot the thread and twist it several times.
When the wire is taut, the virtual angles obtained by tracing an imaginary triangle that joins the 2 eyelets with the suspension point of the frame must be at least 30°.
It is not recommended to use steel wire to hang very narrow and long frames.
